Post Comments

Feel free to post comments on each page and to respond comments. We are waiting for somebody to respond a question posted by Michael in the following page. Michaels question is:

One thing about which I have always wondered is why more Jews did not take advantage of the refuge in Souza. Trujillo had agreed to take 100,000 refuges, yet only about 800 came. Why not more? Was there mistrust of Trujiio by the European Jews, did he renege on his promise, or did the Nazis refuse to allow more to leave? I have never seen anyone address this detail in the histories of the Holocaust. Trujiio’s offer was the only generous offer of aid to the the Jewish refugees, even if his motives might have been suspect. Why not more people? I hope someone can enlighten me on this.
